ABOUT ANIMALS MATTER
What happens when your sales grow faster than your operations can keep up? That was the challenge facing Animals Matter, a boutique pet product manufacturer based in Palm Springs, Florida.
Owned by husband-and-wife team Scott Avera and Nancy Kline, Animals Matter is dedicated to creating high-quality, ethically produced pet products—including dog beds, car seats, ramps, and stairs. Their commitment to craftsmanship and animal well-being has fueled rapid growth, increasing demand across their business.
THE PROBLEM
As Animals Matter experienced rapid growth, their order volume quickly became difficult to manage. With nearly 90,000 orders flowing through Shopify and ShipStation, their team struggled to keep QuickBooks Enterprise up to date. The husband and wife team was hand entering orders, instead of running their businesses.
Orders had to be manually synced, and payout reconciliation—matching Shopify deposits to actual orders—was handled entirely by hand. This process was time-consuming, error-prone, and placed a heavy burden on their accounting team each week.
THE SOLUTION
With Connex, Animals Matter fully automated the flow of data between Shopify, ShipStation, and QuickBooks Enterprise—eliminating the need for manual data entry. Orders are now seamlessly synced, ensuring accurate and up-to-date financial records without additional effort from the team.
In addition, Connex’s Match Deposit tool automatically reconciles Shopify payouts with bank deposits in QuickBooks, removing a previously manual process and saving 15 - 20 hours each week in accounting time.
“Now, I can’t even imagine entering orders from Shopify by hand. Before, we used to cut and paste orders into emails and send them to the fulfillment team. Connex automatically syncs ShipStation with QuickBooks for us, and it saves us at least 2 hours a day,” said founder Scott Avera.
THE RESULTS
With Connex in place, Animals Matter eliminated manual data entry and streamlined their entire order-to-accounting workflow. Orders from Shopify and ShipStation now sync automatically into QuickBooks Enterprise, ensuring accurate, real-time financial data.
By automating payout reconciliation with the Match Deposit tool, their team reduced manual accounting work and now saves 15–20 hours each week. Additionally, automation across fulfillment and accounting processes saves the team at least 10 hours per week.
