CASE STUDY
Streamline Luggage
Founded in 2008, SteamLine Luggage creates luxury, vintage-inspired luggage designed for modern travelers. Headquartered in Ireland, the company serves customers around the world through its Shopify ecommerce store, selling internationally across Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other global markets. As international sales continued to grow, so did the complexity of managing multi-country tax compliance, multiple currencies, and accurate accounting in QuickBooks Online.

THE CHALLENGE
Steamline Luggage sells internationally through Shopify, serving customers across Europe, the United States, and the United Kingdom. As sales expanded globally, the accounting process became increasingly difficult to manage.
The company needed to correctly account for VAT and sales tax across 23 European and non-European countries, each with different tax requirements. In addition, Shopify records orders in a home currency, but customers often pay in their local currency. This created discrepancies when recording sales and reconciling deposits in QuickBooks Online.
Steamline also receives payouts in multiple currencies, including U.S. Dollars (USD), British Pounds (GBP), and Euros (EUR). Manually allocating deposits to the correct bank accounts and mapping taxes consumed significant time every week while increasing the risk of accounting errors.
THE SOLUTION
Steamline implemented Connex to automate the flow of Shopify transactions into QuickBooks Online.
Connex was configured to:
- Map VAT and sales tax for 23 countries, including the United States and United Kingdom.
- Record transactions using the currency the customer actually paid, rather than Shopify's home currency.
- Automatically route deposits into separate QuickBooks Online deposit accounts for USD, GBP, and EUR.
- Map the appropriate tax and deposit accounts without requiring manual bookkeeping adjustments.
By automating these accounting rules, every order arrives in QuickBooks Online with the correct currency, tax treatment, and deposit account already applied

THE RESULTS
After implementing Connex, Steamline Luggage eliminated hours of repetitive bookkeeping while improving financial accuracy.
Key results include:
- 10 hours saved every week through automated data entry.
- Accurate VAT and tax reporting across 23 international markets.
- Automatic separation of USD, GBP, and EUR deposits into the correct QuickBooks Online accounts.
- Transactions recorded using the customer's payment currency, eliminating reconciliation issues caused by Shopify's home currency.
- Reduced manual corrections and greater confidence in month-end financial reporting.

Connex provides the flexibility to automate complex accounting workflows that standard integrations cannot handle. For Steamline Luggage, this meant replacing manual bookkeeping with a fully automated process that scales as international sales continue to grow.
